Hawthorne Volleyball Teams Begin Run at Playoffs
Hawthorne Christian Academy’s girl volleyball team recently won four straight games to begin a run at the upcoming playoffs. After a slow start this season, the girls’ team defeated Walnut Grove Christian School, Trinity Christian, Shield of Faith, and Union Christian Day School before losing to Blessed Hope Baptist last Friday. The Lady Hawks are currently in a third place tie with Union and place themselves in contention for the final spot of the SCACS 1A volleyball playoffs. With an overall record of 4-4, the girls have shown their hard work and practice is beginning to pay off.
The Hawthorne boys’ team has also had recent success, by defeating Blessed Hope Baptist School of York. After losing two games in the best of five match, the Hawks fought back to win a thrilling three games in a row to defeat Blessed Hope on the road. Although the boys’ team has had a tough season, this recent win has inspired the Hawks to try to win out their schedule and make a run at the playoffs. Coaches Bryan Wardlaw and Dio Guerra are proud of the teamwork and effort that the girls and boys have put in this season.
Hawthorne will resume play against Union Christian Day School at home on Friday, October 3rd at 5:00 PM as both teams will continue to try to make the playoffs.

Lady Hawks defeat Shield of Faith & Trinity Christian
Hawthorne's Lady Hawks defeated Shield of Faith & Trinity Christian School this week to extend their winning streak to three games. On Tuesday, the girls defeated Shield of Faith 3 games to 2 in which HCA jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then faced a tough team which came back to win two in a row. The Lady Hawks then went on to win the tiebreaker game. On Friday, the Lady Hawks defeated Trinity and played their best game of the early season, winning 3 games to none. The girls are now 3-3 for the season and 2-3 in conference play. The boys team lost 3 games to none versus Shield of Faith in non-conference action. The Hawks record is now 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Both the boys and girls will play on the road against Union Christian and Blessed Hope in SCACS conference action this coming week.

Hawks fall in playoffs, finish the season fourth overall
HCA's Hawks finished their volleyball season by participating in the SCACS playoff tournament. Unfortunately, the Hawks fell to Blessed Hope in the first round and later lost to Union Christian Day School in the consolation match to finish the season in fourth place. However, congratulations are in order to Junior Cody Carpenter who was named to the All Tournament Team. Coach Guerra was proud of the effort both teams put in this year and is already looking forward to next year. Click here for the playoff brackets and further information about the tournament.

Lady Hawks finish their conference schedule, Hawks make the playoffs
HCA's Lady Hawks finished their volleyball season conference schedule with a loss to Carolina Christian. The Girls played hard this season and won three conference games against very strong opponents. Even though they will not make the playoff tournament, the Girls and Senior Stacy Patterson should be proud of their efforts. They will finish their season with a non-conference match versus Shield of Faith in Rock Hill on Tuesday October 23rd.
The Hawks also lost to Carolina Christian in their final conference game, but will compete at the SCACS playoff tournament beginning Monday, October 22 in Gaffney versus Blessed Hope Baptist School of York. The winner will go on to play in the championship match and the loser will go to the consolation game. In between these two matches the Boys will also compete against Shield of Faith in a non-conference match on Tuesday. Please check back for further details about their tournament play.

Lady Hawks defeat Union Christian Day School
Hawthorne's Lady Hawks defeated Union Christian Day School in five games to win their second match of the season. Hawthorne jumped out to win the first game (25-13), but then lost games two (16-25) and three (20-25) before winning the final two (25-19), (16-14). With the win, the HCA Lady Hawks improve their conference record to 2-8, while the boys record is 2-4.

Hawthorne Falls to Union & Trinity
Hawthorne's Lady Hawks lost to Union Christian Day School and Trinity Christian School of Rock Hill. HCA traveled to Union and played a close match, but came up short and lost 3 games to 1 (10-25, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25). Versus Trinity, Hawthorne lost in three consecutive games (21-25, 13-25, 24-26) to fall to 1-5 in conference play.
The Hawks lost to Union Christian Day School in 4 games (27-29, 16-25, 25-17, 15-25) to fall to 1-2 in conference play. HCA's Boys & Girls volleyball season resumes versus Blessed Hope and Heritage Christian of Gaffney this week.

Hawthorne Loses To Blessed Hope & Trinity
Hawthorne Christian Academy's Girls & Boys suffered loses this week to Blessed Hope Baptist of York and Trinity Christian of Rock Hill. The Lady Hawks were able to win one game out of the best of 5 match, but Blessed Hope proved to be too strong as the Flames defeated the Girls Team. The Boys were swept in three games to fall to 1-1 for the regular season.
On Thursday, the Lady Hawks lost to Trinity Christian to fall to 1-3 for the regular season. Similar to the Blessed Hope match the girls won one game, but were not able to win the match.
Both teams will compete versus Union Christian Day School this Tuesday as they continue their SCACS conference play.

Hawthorne Christian Academy Begins The 2007 Volleyball Season
The Hawthorne Christian Academy Lady Hawks opened up their volleyball season at the HCA gym by defeating Walnut Grove Christian School of Fort Mill. Led in serve points by Kimberly Dillinger and Katie York, the Lady Hawks swept Walnut Grove in three games (25-16, 25-11, 25-13).
The following night the girls lost to Carolina Christian of Lancaster in a very close match, with Carolina winning the fifth game tiebreaker with a score of 15 to 10. The final game scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 25-12, 10-15.
The Hawks opened their regular season play against Carolina and swept the Cougars in three games (25-13, 25-14, 25-14). Sanchez Sanders and Cody Carpenter led the boys in serve points. Coach Dio Guerra said,”Both the boys and girls teams played great games, and we are very proud of the hard work these young people have put in so far. We are looking forward to a great season.” The Lady Hawks will resume play versus Trinity Christian School of Rock Hill, and both the boys and girls will compete against Blessed Hope of York this week. Hawthorne Christian Academy is a member of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Athletic Conference - 1 A.
