Hawthorne Players Named

To SCACS All Conference Team

Freshmen Katie York and Justin Clack were named to the 2007-2008 SCACS 1A All Conference Basketball Team according to SCACS league officials. This honor goes to the overall best player of each team as judged by the coaches and the league. It is a tremendous honor, especially considering they are both Freshman. Hawthorne Athletic Director Chris Cassady said, "Katie and Justin stepped up in many ways this year to help their team. I am proud of their efforts and of all of the players at HCA this past year."

Basketball Season Recap

The Lady Hawks finished the SCACS regular season with 3 wins and 7 loses. This season was very demanding for the girls physically, with starters Brittany Wardlaw and Kimberly Dillinger going down early in the year with serious injuries and missing over half the season. Katie York performed admirably, coming off the bench to start as point guard and keep the girls competitive throughout the season. Senior Stacy Patterson finished her career and Devyn Greenwood assisted in keeping the Lady Hawks in several of their games. Although it was a difficult season, the Lady Hawks never gave up and played to the best of their ability in every game.

The Hawks had a rebuilding year after losing two valuable seniors the previous year. Cody Carpenter led the team in points scored, while Justin Clack had a great season. Zach Guerra and Cody Faust also put in solid performances throughout the season, while Roy and Alex Wallen worked hard to develop their skills and put in valuable game time. First time player Alex Compton was also a spark off the bench who showed tenacious defense. Although the final SCACS record of 1-9 does not reflect the effort put forth, the Hawks played valiantly and look forward to next season.

Hawthorne Lady Hawks Finish Third, Make Playoffs

For just the second time in school history, the Hawthorne Christian Academy Lady Hawks finished third in regular season play and advanced to the first round of the SCACS playoffs where they lost to Trinity Christian of Rock Hill. Although the loss in the playoffs was a disappointment to the girls, they finished a great year where they swept rivals Carolina Christian and Blessed Hope Baptist for the first time. Seniors Jessi Ammons and Michelle York had outstanding seasons and should be proud of their efforts.
